Please Help! Computer problem. Sims 3?

Ok, I just bought the sims 3 today and Just then released That it's a dvd format disk.

My problem is that my CD-drive doesn't play Dvd disks.

I'm trying to buy a new Cd drive off of ebay, but I have no idea on what will fit/work ect....

My computer is: Hp compaq. Its specs are 3ghz, 1ram, 40hd

How will i know which Cd- drive will Work/fit..

    LOL just go to a computer store, ask them what there cheapest dvd drive is. you don't need anything special.

    there are basically two sizes for internal drives, 3.5 inch and 5.5 inch i believe. you're going to want the bigger one. Also, the cable or connection to the motherboard is either IDE or SATA. if the connection your current cd drive to the motherboard is a wide, thin, plastic cable, you've got IDE. Unless you know you're motherboard has a SATA port, then i'd go with IDE (SATA is better though). as far as it working, just pick a good quality CD/DVD burner drive, and it will be able to read DVDs. you can buy these from newegg.com or a local electronic store such as best buy.

    You do not need a CD drive, you need a DVD drive.

    Any standard DVD drive will fit. You may need to remove your CD drive first. The DVD drive will play both CDs and DVDs.

    You need to buy an internal 5.5" or 3.5" DVD drive or just an external one.

    In your case, get external USB DVD drive becasue then you do not have play around with the inside of the computer because based on your question I assume you do not know a whole lot about computers.

    you will need to buy a DVD drive, not a CD drive. CD drives cant play DVDs, but DVD drives can play CDs. Ur computer probably dosnt use SATA so i would suggest any IDE (ATA) DVD drive. their dirt cheap.

    Some computers you have to hit the windows key with shift + c and you could try the other keys.

    you should have checked out the side of the box first for the specs sims3.

    on that kind of computer it usally sucks with cds soo ya
