The blood leaves the heart through the pumping action of the left ventricle. It moves up thru the aorta, which sends the blood to the heart via the coronary artery, up to the head via the two carotid arteries, and to the body via the dorsal aorta. The dorsal aorta has a branch called the left subclavian that takes the blood to the left arm. The dorsal aorta sends branches into each kidney (renal arteries) and then branches into the right and left iliac arteries which enter each leg.
