Actually, yes. Like Britain, the USA outlawed the importation of slaves in 1807. Slavery didn't actually end until decades later in either country, 1833 for Britain, 1865 for the USA.
The last of ours was abolished by the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 (directed at the confederate states, but basically was a full abolition). It was 144 years on January 1st, 2007.
The 13th Amendment to the Constitution was Dec. 6, 1865, which was the actual legal official date. Going by that we're at 141 years.
slavery was officially abolished in America with the passage of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution. however, it took a civil war and thousands of dead before it could happen. BTW, the Brits helped the Confederacy, which just goes to show they were only anti-slavery in England, not everywhere
No, it took us a little longer, and the spilling of tens of thousands of young men's lives to sort that one out. Interesting fact, the British were passive supporters of the South in that war. Still my hat off to you for getting it right 53 years sooner than we.
Have you ever heard of the WAR BETWEEN THE STATES otherwise known as the civil war? If so then you know the answer to this question! If not read a history about it!

Now,we just slave 4months a year to pay taxes.
Nope, it's only been 142 years.
Why the slave trade ended is just plain stupid .
