Is a Parabola Graph a Linear Graph?

Say I have a parabola graph, is that also considered to be linear??

Thanks in advance. :)

Update:

Thanks, I didn't know if linears were ALWAYS straight lines.

  • Your parabola will look like the smile on a smileyface, a curved "U" or an upside down one. You use a Quadratic equation to get it. To get the straight line (which can be at any angle), you need a linear equation.

  • I personally wouldn't plug in numbers, I would use transformations(Pre-Calc.). It would be kinda hard to explain but for pluging in numbers always keep in mind that since you are dealing with a parabola, it has 2 y values that are the same, but different x values. Start from 0, 1,2,3,4,5, etc. but then go back and do -1,-2,-3,-4,-5, etc. and plot those as well. And using negative values for x doesn't come out wrong?? The value is what the value is. If you aren't sure whether you made a mathematical error or something else, use a graphing calculator to aid you to see the graph and find the point. Hope I helped

  • Nope. Linear is ONLY a straight line. Parabola's are a form of conics.

  • NO!!! parabolas are curved while linear graphs are LINES which are ALWAYS straight in math
