will gas prices ever go down?
within one week gas in my area has gone from $3.93 to $4.21 per gallon. will it ever stop increasing?!?!
what is causing this spike? from what i hear, there is no shortage, but there is high demand and the oil companies are just over charging so their ceos can line their pockets.
even with my car getting 35mpg, this is still rediculous.
any body remember the good days when gas was only $1.95?

$1.97?
When I started driving... gas was only $0.79 a gallon.
What they'll do is... jack prices way up, then lower them just a little so you & I feel better about it. The fact is... it's still far more than it should be.
I'm paying $4.96 in Michigan for Diesel!
The US has a population of 301 million and almost every household has a car (or two).
Recently, the US has been shipping jobs to India and making them wealthy. They now want cars. They have a population of 1.2 Billion. At the same time, Japan is shipping jobs to China who has a population of 1.4 billion. Per household, they are not even close to averaging 1 car. But, as they're wealth is increasing rapidly, they are increasing the cars per household rapidly. If just 10% of the combined populations of India and China households obtain cars, they will surpase the USA thirst for Oil. This is what is happening. The USA was the #1 consumer. The USA demand has gone down 0.3 percent last year. But, this decrease in demand is nothing compared to the increase demands of these other countries.
About 5 years ago, I read a book on peak oil and how it works. It predicted $10 / gallon gasoline in 10 years. It seems we're very much on track for that prediction to come true. Unless we switch our power source, there really isn't another option.
A barrel of oil contains 42 gallons of gas. At $130 a barrel, that's over $3.09 going directly to OPEC. The refinaries, oil companies, and local franchise owners are taking very little off the top.
One other BIG factor. The dollar is worth about $0.27 compared to what it was in 2000. Look at the price of Gold as the standard. If we bought Barrel's of oil in Gold, we'd be spending about the same number of Gold coins today as we did back then. This means that if gas cost you $1.00 in 2000, it should cost you about $4.00 today. If we didn't spend more money (like on defense) than we collect in taxes, our dollar would have strength.... and the oil price would not of increased 4 times.
First of all I remember when gas was 16 cents, -- after rationing went off ,and you could actually buy more than 5 gallons a week! We could then buy lots of other things also,- like batterys, and tires for instance! Crude oil was arouind $7-8 a barrel. Of course we only have one more refinery plant than we had in WW(I think)! Jet planes burn 900% or more fuel than the old reciprocating engines did (that jet fuel has to come from somewhere too you know)!
Then there's the problem that although we have enough oil to last for 4-500 years under the US, we can't drill for it because of "anti pollution laws", -- it might pollute area around drill head, - till it could be cleaned up (the US has best cleanup in world at present!) WE can't drill for oil 20 miles off the coast of US, -- but China can come down and drill and get the oil!So we buy oil from abroad! And we "pay thorugh the nose" for it! Laws need to be changed, and we need to have judges stop "legislating" from bench! None of candidates for president give a rip about the probelm -- in fact being senators puts them right in the middle of making the probelms, -- instead of solving them! If you are young, you need to get going and cause change,-- and you have to do it, as we are "old" (and nobody listens to us)! So unless YOU wake up and do something, - it is going to continue! History does repeat itself, and sometimes with a "vengance"! Our knowledge and experience means nothing in modern world, so this generation is going to have to go through what has happened in past periodically
This is a planned spike brought on by the oil cartels! With crude oil running close to $100 a barrel, it is naturally going to cost a little! And then we have to float it across the "Pond"-that is not free either! When gas was $1.95 a gallon "crude was around $36 -, $38 dollars! They know what "suckers" we are for horsepower and acceleration, and figure that we will pay whatever they want rather than doing without! The car manufacturers on the other hand are spennding billions on areodynamic looking cars (which don't mean "beans" at speeds of less than 60 mph)-- As long as it impresses the neighbors and we are impressed about how fast it looks, that is all that matters! Lets face it, - there is a lot that can be done even with the archaic "carbureter"! I have a 1922 Model "T" ford that gets 35 mpg, with little more than a piece of waterpipe with a venturi tube and a throttle plate in it to regulate engine speed! It has magento ignition, 15 hp rated engine, - and goes 38mph, -- plenty fast for 30x3 1/2 tires and "wood spoked" wheels. -- there is danger of rolling over on sharp turns with it's "high center of gravity", with the top of roof 6'1" off ground and springs opearting "crossways"! now the body design resembles a telephone booth on wheels!
Now you would think with all the technology and experience they have gained in 86 years, they could have maybe come up with something other than aerodynamic body and still have 35mpg, -- and possibly a little more comfortable on trips than what we have now!!
gas prices will flex between the year, but ultimatly will always go up in price, if you have a diesel engine, you can take filtered used cooking oil, and pour it right into your gas tank with no mods to car at all
They're gaming the system, again.
Look what happened after Bush took office: http://www.chycho.com/images/Oil_Prices_Medium_Ter...
one guy in indana drilled for oil in his own back yard, hummmm, maybe we should all do that, bet that will bring the price back down!!!!!
