Can you see pencil through gesso acrylic paint?
I recently did a drawing on a large canvas, but I did it in pencil and now I want to put it in paint. Its a fairly large canvas, and the design on it is an abstract design with dark lines that are defined. When I drew it I didn't prepare and got smudges and lines all over from where I erased.
What I want do do is paint the background white to get rid of the unwanted pencil marks while leaving the dark lines I want to keep visible. After that, I would paint black over the visible, painted-over lines. So my question is:
Is gesso translucent enough that I can see dark lines through it? Can I dilute with water or soap to make it thinner?
Thank you!

Yes you can use a little water ,but don't use soap
Before. Gesso takes about a day to dry. You also have to sand it down with sandpaper. I guess you could try taking a blow dryer to the gesso to speed up the drying.
Add a little water
