What digital slr camera do you reccomend ?

So im really getting into photography and for my birthday i want to get a digital slr camera. I was originally going to get the 10mp 15Opticall zoom fujiFinePixx s2000hd with hd videorecordingg as well for £180. But recently i have seen Fujisuper-zoomm 10 mp with 18X optical zoom.

I really dont know which of the 2 to get, or if you know of anything better than this camera for about £180-£200 (max) please tell me. By the way they have to be digital SLR'S becasue i hate the feel of skinny cameras

  • Both S2000HD and S8000fd Super Zoom are not dSLRs. They are bridge cameras. They resemble dSLRs but only on appearance. They are souped-up point-and-shooters with slightly more controls than the usual. If you plan on getting serious in photography, you will never be satisfied with a bridge camera.

The defining characteristics of a dSLR is a pentaprism or pentamirror that allows the user to view the scene through the lens. All dSLRs also have interchangeable lens systems for greater versatility.

If you are concerned with video recording, do not get a dSLR, they are only good for still shots and act poorly as video cameras.

If you are very much concerned with zoom, do not buy a dSLR camera. The dSLR camera has NO ZOOM, as in ZERO. However, you may attach a zoom lens to the dSLR camera which is most often much lesser than the X's you find in non-dSLRs. In the dSLR world, zoom lenses are the worst kind of lens you can use. Zooms are strictly for general purpose shooting when you are lazy or can not afford to buy the much better and more expensive non-zooming (or prime) lenses. In dSLRs, when you want more magnification, you either replace the lens with a longer one or simply walk towards your subject.

At the budget you mentioned, it might be possible to buy a second-hand dSLR camera with a kit zoom lens. Try searching for the entry levels like the Canon Rebel, Nikon D40 and the Pentax K100d or *istD.

If you want brand new, then try to search for price quotes on any of the brands above with the megapixels you wish to have. Do not worry, you won't go wrong with any of those three. They are the best names in 35mm photography and they have the years to prove it. Their dSLR cameras are all somewhat similar with differences basically only in megapixels. There are a few trivial features from each model but that would be more of a concern for the serious pros.

  • The models you named are not really SLR's (single lens reflex). They are compact digital cameras, which may not be very compact with all that optical zoom, but they have small sensors. The least expensive DSLR currently available new is the Nikon D40. Some other beginner DSLR's that are a step up are the Canon XS and the Nikon D60 (which is soon to be replaced by the D3000).

  • Martin G is right, you are talking about Super Zoom cameras, not SLR's. Two better rated cameras are the Canon PowerShot SX10 IS and the Kodak EasyShare Z1012 IS.

  • A Sony Alpha A-350 is the best. You will get some amazing shots with that guy.

  • Sorry your not going to get a slr for $200.

This will explain what a slr is. Hope it helps.
