Paragard IUD? Pros and cons?

I had the Mirena and I hated it, I'm hoping that the paragard will be better for me since it has no hormones. I just had my first period after my miscarriage last month and I'm getting my IUD on the 9th. I've heard that paragard gives you really horrible periods, but I wanted to hear some first hand experiences from women who have actually had it.

  • No, it doesn't give you horrible periods. I've had mine in for 8 years, and the most discomfort I felt was when they inserted it, like a few hours of cramps. No big deal. You might get periods that are slightly heavier (like me) but it's not as dramatic as it sounds. And the no hormones thing is a huge plus. Good luck!

  • I got the Paragard recently and my husband and I LOVE it. The cramping isn't as bad as the nurse warned me so I've been very pleased. Like the other answerer the most discomfort I felt was when they were inserting it (yowza, that hurt.... but still totally worth it). I can't have hormones in my system because they alter my sex drive dramatically and even change my personality. After years of trying different kinds of bc (pills, patch, ring, condoms- male and female. spermicide, etc.) we've finally found something that works. The extra cramping and slightly heavier periods are totally worth it.

  • I also have a paragard- this one has been in for over 7 years. its my 2d one, i had one for 6 years after the start of my first newborn and now returned after my 2d. it wont regulate your era, even with the incontrovertible fact that it could make it slightly heavier, or you're slightly crampy. its uncomplicated to insert-that's slightly uncomfortable, think of extreme crampiness. many times lined by using insurance, and if its something that doesnt accept as true with you, you could continually have it bumped off. stable success! edit to function- they are cost effectual pondering they are stable for 10 years. additionally- ten years of not having to think of roughly start administration is astounding.
