How do you do this problem ?

Solve the equation.

x2 + 8x = 20

x = 10, x = -2

x = 10, x = 2

x = -10, x = 1

x = -10, x = 2

Comments

  • x^2 + 8x - 20 = 0

    (x +10)(x - 2) =0

    x + 10 = 0

    x - 2 = 0

    x = -10 and x = 2

  • ==

    x^2 + 8x - 20 = 0 ==

    (x+10)(x-2) = 0

    So either x can equal -10 or 2

  • x^2 + 8x - 20 factors to give (x+10)(x-2), so the roots are -10 and +2.

  • first take the 20 and put it on the other side of the equation.

    x2+8x-20=0

    factor the equation.

    (x+10)(x-2)=0

    and then x= -10 and 2

    is there anything you don't understand or don't know how i got that answer?

  • In order for you to get that answer, x must be the same meaning that x is 2 because you have to multiply in order for you to get that answer.

    2 times 2=4 and 8 times 2 = 16 and 16+4=20. and there you go.
