Does a modem ( ADSL ) affect latency?
So I have a concern that actually my modem ( free one from ISP ) is causing the high ping - about 40 - 100 in cs 1.6. I have 2mb connection which should be definitely ok. When I come to my friends house who has different ISP and own bought modem, he has much lower latency ( 10 - 20 )
Thx for any suggestions.
Update:One more thing i noticed. I used http://www.geobytes.com/IpLocator.htm?GetLocation I entered my IP and found out that the location is in totally different city than I live in.. does it matter?

DSL modems are full-duplex, and not the likely source of latency.
Throughput and latency on a DSL line are variable - depending on geographical distance to the carrier's POP. You may be able to contact your carrier to see if it can be improved, but they typically disclose this in their sales literature.
go to command prompt and type in "tracert google.com" with quotation marks... and email the results to [email protected]
