Does a Pentium 4 LGA775 require thermal paste?

I am planning on buying a pentium 4 processor that has the LGA775 interface... and was wondering does this require thermal paste?

i have a maximum pc magazine that shows/tells how to install one but it does not say if it requires thermal paste or not.

  • if the cpu is OEM yes. ( just the cpu)

if the cpu comes in a box ( aka retail )

the fan should fave pink gum stuff on the bottom of the cpu.

    that's a thermal stuff.

if you buy thermal paste.. like artic sliver, it will be better for you especially lga775 gets very hot.

  • Yes the thermal paste is there to seal the tiny minute gaps between the heat sink and processor. That's is job. Don't use to much! You want an even seal so the heat sink takes the maximum heat from the processor.

  • Intel's naming of their processor lines is amazingly complicated. there have been Pentium 4s with hyperthreading (first attempt at what we now call twin center). Then have been given right here the Pentium D sequence. Then the twin center Pentium. Then the middle 2 Duo. And now the "i" sequence. The Pentium D is a twin center processor, besides the actuality that it is no longer a matching sequence because of the fact the twin center Pentium.

  • Absolutely, and Arctic Silver 2 or up, will drop the CPU temp 10C versus white silicon paste.
