How do i do this problem?
In 2004, A runner from Belarus won the gold medal in the 100 meter race. Her time was 10.93 seconds. In 1988, Florence Joyner of the US set a world record of 10.49 seconds for the 100 meter race. IF these two people has run in the same race with their respective times above, Florence would win, but by how many meters?
HOW DO I DO THIS?!
Comments
100 m / 10.93 s = 9.1491
9.1491 m/sec for Belarus
10.49 * 9.1491 = 95.974 meters
Means when Florence finishes his race in 10.49 (100 meters), Belarus would have run 95.974 meters.
100 - 95.974 = 4.026 Beat by around 4 meters....
100/10.49 ok put this in you calculator...solve it and right it down. Then 100/10.93 do the same thing
take Florence's awnser and subtract it by the runner from Belarus.
get the rate of each runner
distance = rate * time
so rate = distance/time
so runner one ran 9.15 m/s
and runner two ran 9.53 m/s
so if runner two reaches the finish line of 100m in 10.49 seconds
how many meters did runner one traverse in 10.49 seconds?
subtract your answer from 100m and that is it.
