Fake cougher @ 6 mos?

I have a 6 month old and I'm almost certain he started fake coughing the past couple days. He coughs occasionally because he's teething and he chokes on all of his spit. I have been clearing my throat a lot the past couple days and all of the sudden, I notice him doing this light, faint, fake sounding noise. He's never immitated me- as in done it right after I have, but he started doing it after he heard me a bunch of times. I normally don't clear my throat. Anyone else??

  • During the spring and summer months, I usually get allergy attack which consists of coughing and other classic allergy symptoms. Well, my son (who is 9 months as of Sept. 2008) started taking notice because it was loud and often abrupt.

At around the same age of 6 months, he started to notice that and replicate the sounds I was making (along with many others, such as the inflection of our voices, etc.). Another thing is that when we started solids, he would occasionally cough or gag a little bit when figuring out how to chew/swallow, and we would always take extra notice to make sure he didn't choke.

Mommy's sounds + getting attention when actually coughing = fake coughing for attention! He does this all the time now when he wants attention or wants out of his crib or bouncer. After 9 months, we know the difference between real and fake coughs but it's very clear to see that he thinks he can still fool us!

It's so normal for your baby to do something like this, especially if he knows that it will instantly get your attention. Even if he doesn't use the sounds and words to get your attention, it's the earliest steps he's taking on his road to actual words and speech. He'll even start to make his own noises, but essentially you are the foundation to his mastery of language.

  • My niece is a fake cougher, she started around 6 months. My brother has bad allergies and sneezes and sniffles and coughs all of the time. It's real cute though!

  • It relies upon. replaced right into a "new" window asked as element of the sale? What reason replaced into there for changing the window? replaced into the window you put in place operational on the time of sale? Did you provide the hot vendors a guaranty (which you recieved) from the place you got. Is the window non smart as a results of fact of placing up or unfavorable high quality? All of those questions are proper. in case you had a sparkling window put in (expert placing up isn't mandatory if it replaced into no longer in the contract) and it replaced into operational on the time of the shoppers walk by way of and that they agreed the window replaced into adequate, what's the subject? The shoppers have already agreed the window is adequate. you may not assure that any merchandise in the residing house will artwork 6 months after a final it fairly is impossible. except they offered new shape from you with a guaranty, you in basic terms won't be ready to insure that issues won't fail. in case you have different words on your sales contract in connection with this window that i did no longer point out, i would not be able to advise. in case you're a sort of fortunate persons who lives in a state the place an lawyer is mandatory to close, i could pose the question to the lawyer.

  • Haha, my son fake coughs all the time! And if I react to it, he will do it more. He's even 'coughed' so many times in a row that he gagged. He forces them out so hard! Little goof ball. Try not to acknowledge it too much, the more you do, the more he will do it!

    Gotta love them!

  • haha my 10 month old does it. she may have when she was younger too but now she does it and grins, and if someone else coughs back at her she will keep doing it over and over. she loves to imitate cough noises.

  • Yup, my little guy was doing that at around 6 months as well. Its too cute the things they learn.

  • Babys dont really fake specially at 6 months. Im not saying its something bad but you might want to have his or her doc check it out.

  • he's probably just mimicking you, just ignore it. if it goes on for like a month or so take him to a doctor just to double check
