Math WORD PROBLEM..............?

A farmer has 3600m of fencing with which to enclose and subdivide a rectangular field into 4 equal plots of land

a) what is the largest area that can be enclosed?

b)what are the dimensions of the largest area?

I'm stuck on this question :( how do you do it??

  • The largest rectangle area is a square. You want 4 squares, so you have 6 equal lengths of fencing. {4 sides of perimeter and one H and one V internal fence.} 3600/6 = 600

    600 x 600 = 360000 sq meters.

    bisecting each side you get 4 squares of 300 x 300 each

    You can try other configurations.

    [like Horizontal domino, with 2 upright dominoes capped by a H domino for

    400m wide + 800 deep (200+400+200 - - at intersections) = 320000 sq meters
