how do you remove a rear axle off a Honda Dirt bike?

I Have a Honda Xr-80r dirtbike 2001, my rear tire popped and I can't remove the rim because the axle. I tried hitting it with a hammer and still won't come out,, and the rear brakes aren't the disc ones(if that helps). Any suggestions? Thanks.

  • Assuming you have chain drive and have removed all nuts/washers involved, try taking a 2 lb sledge and put it against axle. Then take another 2 lb sledge, and hit the sledge against end of axle. Go easy at first, applying more force as necessary. Good luck.

  • Assuming the chain and sprockets are in good condition, about halfway between the front and rear sprocket the bottom part of the chain should move vertically between 25-40mm when standing straight with no-one sitting on the bike, if it is more than that it should be adjusted until the slack is correct. If there is significant lateral movement or the adjusters are at the limit or any teeth are damaged on the sprockets both the sprockets and the chain should be replaced. The marks on the eccentric adjusters are guides only and shouldn't be relied on as totally accurate. to make sure both the wheels are in the same direction use two parallel planks either side of the bike.

  • try oiling it or greasing it 2 help it slide out and get a screw driver or something similar put on the side where u screw the nut on and hit it with a hammer be carefull not to squash the threads together when hitting it
