White people, do you feel a "cultural bond"?
I was wondering, since most minority groups tend to share a sense of belonging to their people, and are usually criticized or discouraged from rejecting their own people, do white people in America interact this way too?
Do you share a cultural understanding with strangers you meet that are white?
Would you feel guilty for associating with non-whites more than white people?
Please answer respectfully. Thank You.
Update:LMBO @ Peridot!
(and I'm an August baby lol)
Update 3:Chas, I can do the same thing as you and I'm black. So stop being racist!

I do understand your question. From what I see whites share a common culture with each other if they are of the same antionality.. for example I went to a Greek Fest (i worked there... i'm not greek)
and you know, everyone shared their cultures and values there.. had food, and greek music. I also notice the same for germans or italians.. especially when they meet other germans and italians, they acknowledge the fact.... but for whites as a whole, no i dont think they share the same cultural values.... the americans have created a culture of their own, but its very ordinary, not like what you would see other cultures have and share together.. or yes, but not such an enfasis on food, music, dress apparel as other ethnicities..
It's a good question. While I understand what your asking, being "white" isn't exactly a cultural thing. White America is so mixed up with everyone else that we really don't have a culture to compare to, not really. I think we mostly feel persecuted for all the past wrongs that have been done in the world even if none of our ancestors had anything to do with it. We are made to feel guilty if we don't associate with other cultures. Most people of color see white and automatically think we are all a group of racist hillbilly rednecks. I grew up in a city where whites were the minority. Personally, I associate with the people in my life that I feel the most comfortable with. Color has nothing to do with it.
White people made the modern World, this is fact not racism in the derogatory sense. I am white northern European Saxon probably part Danish and I also think white females are by far the best looking. Above are two of the main reasons why people from other cultures flood into Northern Europe. The cultural meaning is that we are the most envied people on the planet Caucasian has come to mean White/ European, the old meaning has changed in the same way as "gay" changed from happy to homosexual. I am now Caucasian in the modern use of the word being white Northern European. Caucasian is now used especially in referring to persons of European descent having usually light skin pigmentation
Definitely an Amerocentric question. When I travelled there I told this Black guy that he would have more in common with white American people than I do. He looked puzzled, but I explained to him that he and any random white American guy could answer, who won the World Series Baseball or the Gridiron Superbowl. I couldn't answer that. They could probably answer questions regarding food, TV personalities, regions, cities and many other topics. Again, I could not.
Myself, I was accepted by both black and white people. Even though I was a stranger in a strange land
Here in Europe we "Caucasians" (Whites) know that we have spread our culture, influences and ideas all over the world. Nowadays we prefer to not differentiate, otherwise we think we're repeating the dark days when racial isolation was at its peak. Here everyone belongs to White culture. There may be Asians in Europe who stick to their food and language, or Blacks in Europe who stick to their music and history, but the soil they walk on, the things they buy, the places they live etc. were all founded on European society, so wherever they are Whites are always part of their culture as long as they are in Europe. Europe is the homeland for all Caucasians, and the varying culture you see as you travel across Europe is really White culture.
As a white guy, I perfer to hang out with...white people.
As long as you treat everyone with respect, associate with whoever you want.
As to a cultural understanding....no...i dont specifically feel like i share a cultural understanding with most black people. I dont think that makes me a racist.
No because white isn't a culture! There are many different cultures that result in light-skinned people. A majority of Europe's population are fair skinned. Besides, I don't feel comfortable with people of my own race. I am an Israeli, and Jewish (a culture of it's own) and my mom is constantly insisting I get along with and seek out people of my race. It doesn't interest me at all, I am more comfortable with.. well everyone really.
Yes, I do that. But it seems that when whites just want to bond with whites we are called racists. You don't see that in non white cultures.
I live in a country where almost everyone is white (economically poor country, no reason for others to immigrate here) so I don't really feel that way.
I get what you are saying...
I get why some people think you are crazy for asking it...
My answer would probably be a little too deep for Yahoo! Answers so I won't get into it here (though I know there are people here who could handle the discussion) I don't feel like getting into it with the not-so-brighters...
Your question is valid and intelligent.
