How to pass a surgical technologist interview?
Hi everyone. I need some help please. I have two interviews on the same day at the same place just in different departments. The first interview is for labor and delivery. The second one is for outpatient surgery. Should I keep eye contact with the nurse manager the whole time? I know she will probably ask, "Describe a stressful situation in the past. How did you handle it?" I've had some stressful situations, but I've been working in retail. It won't be related to surg tech. What should I say? What other questions will they ask? What are the best answers? Should I talk a lot? What if they talk a lot and explain everything and there's nothing to ask? Thanks for your help. If I get hired, this will be my first job as a CST. I will definitely tell all of you thanks.

First of all, relax and be yourself. Don't try to appear perfect. Yes, make eye contact, but not to the point of being creepy and staring at them non-stop.
Describe a stressful situation in terms of how you used your communication skills to solve the problem. Talk about how you would act to be assertive to clarify a situation, or seek help for yourself, or how you were able to resolve a conflict with another person through communicating and compromising. Show that you are able to keep a calm head and problem solve and that you're a team player.
Don't talk a lot - answer the questions they ask you, and don't give too many unnecessary details, be concise with your words. Think of questions to ask in terms of asking how the orientation process works, how are policy decisions made in the workplace and are there employee committees where everyone can be involved in process changes or to help improve the care delivery, etc. Since this is your first job, ask if they offer any kind of mentoring program for a new grad like yourself.
