How does Christianity make sense?
ok i am agnostic.
if God is somehow shown to be real in the future then i will apologize and kiss his feet and ask for forgiveness.
However that likely wont matter anyway.
According to the Bible, the only unforgivable sin is not believing in God.
But that really doesnt make sense.
Every Christian says that God is ALL powerful and can do ANYTHING.
So why couldnt he forgive me for my supposed ignorance?
I mean Hitler could have repented for everything he did, and as long as he believed in God, he would get into Heaven whereas I would be sent to Hell.
Does that make any sense?
Of course Christians will defend this, since your religion basically has you hostage.
Another thing is alot of the stories in the Bible just dont seem plausible.
Like living for 1000's of years.
Being swallowed by a whale and vomited back up after three days.
Bringing dead people back to life. like Lazarus
My mom says she is gonna pray for me. but she should just give up on me since i have commited the ultimate sin.
what do you think??
Update:yomama yomama, when the Bible makes an allegory it says it. The story of Jonah is a LITERAL one. In fact, claiming that some of the stories are figurative actually means you have sinned because you have taken the "Truth" and claimed it to be a tale.

It doesn't. NO religion makes sense. Belief in God makes no sense. That's why when we try to think "spiritually", reason, logic, rationality, and common sense all have to take a backseat. Otherwise, NO ONE would believe. (Don't ask me why He made it so hard...I don't know.)
I have so many questions about all of this, that when I was talking to my mom about it, she told me I sounded like I was agnostic. She apparently doesn't think it's okay to question anything. I say, "Question everything, but understand that not everything makes sense."

Every...
By being the only faith that gives life and offers a real relationship with the Creator of the universe
You know what, worshipping Him when you meet Him on the day of judgement will not make any difference because you have to make your decision about where you want to spend eternity here on earth while you are still in your body. Do yourself a favor and do the right thing.
You are not ignorant, we have shared the Gospel with you but you refuse to acknowledge Him and accept His gift of life and righteousness. You recieve these by faith and the Bible says without faith it is impossible to get God's attention. Acknowledging Him because you have seen Him is not faith, it is acting on your senses and you will not get His attention then. Dont say I did not warn you
About Hiltrer, no one on the face of the earth is any more righteous than hiltler if we judge by what the everyone does. Before God there is no such thing as a worst sinner and a light sinner. The Law is one and there is no difference between those who break the whole of it or just one component of it. This is why nobody can earn salvation, this is why it is said: All have sinned and fallen short of God's glory.
We are therefore saved by grace through faith. And you have to say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.
1) Where the heck in the Bible did you find this? Cite your verse(s). How is anyone supposed to answer properly if you don't even point to where in the Bible you are referencing? This question sounds like more of a "According to me or something I vaguely heard or read about but didn't look into..."
2) God doesn't punish for your ignorance if you aren't at fault. The important part is IF YOU ARE NOT AT FAULT. Of course He will forgive you if it was out of your control. Basically, if you have never had the opportunity to properly learn about God etc, He won't punish you for that. However, if you purposely push the truth aside after having it presented to you, then God would punish you for it.
3) Only some branches of Christianity think that solely believing in God is enough to get you saved. It's a load of BS. James 2:17: "So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead." and James 2:20 "Do you want proof, you ignoramus, that faith without works is useless?" ... which goes on to talk about it. The branches that believe "faith alone" usually take out James because of those verses and the ones around it.
4) Christianity does not hold me hostage.
5) Not every story in the Bible is literal. Regarding the age thing, a simple answer would be that they didn't measure years in the same way we do right now. Just Google it some more and do some searching for articles already written on it.
6) Bringing dead people back to life doesn't seem plausible, but when it involves God, then it wouldn't be hard to think an all-powerfull being could bring someone back.
Edit for OP: When you say "when the Bible makes an allegory it says it", you:
1) Insult the author's capacity for writing things that can be deeper than face value without having to explain it.
2) Say that if it isn't explicity stated in the Bible, it isn't true. (basically, everything is literal and nothing more)
3) Insult the reader's intelligence on understanding deeper than literal stories.
For example:
"And Solomon had 40,000 stalls of horses for his chariots, and 12,000 horsemen." (1Kings 4:26)
-
"Now Solomon had 4,000 stalls for horses and chariots and 12,000 horsemen," (2 Chron 9:25)
It doesn't say "Oh, he just has a lot of stalls for horses", or mention that the numbers aren't literal ones. You then, by your logic, have to assume it's both, which doesn't make sense. In reality, it would only be logical to assume that the numbers are meant to represent a great number.
Also, I never claimed that Jonah's story wasn't literal. I think it's true and also completely plausible.
The unforgivable sin is blaspheming the Holy Spirit. That's not unbelief. Some people interpret it to think blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is repeated refusal to listen to His convicting of one (whilst an aunbeliever). I think that's the wrong interpretation. Jesus only mentioned it when some pharisees said he was healing people through the power of Beelzebub, believed by the Jews of Jesus' time to be the 'prince of demons', so equating the Holy Spirit with one of Satan's fiends. One would probably have to be in the manifest presence of the Holy Spirit and call him a devil to commit such a sin.
Not believing in God is NOT the unpardonable sin -- that is, if at some point
you do come to belief and don't die in it.
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is the unpardonable sin. That is what the
Pharisees of Christ's day were doing when they attributed the works of healing
performed for people that were known to them and
that they WATCHED Him do right in front of them to the power of Satan.
The rest of your post is like a virtual replica of others that has been

The longest lifespan in the Bible was Methuselah's 969 years. Not "thousands".
Noah isn't the only one, apparently.

People are brought back from the dead more often, and in a lot more
more ways than you know.

Am I missing something here....? We ALL (babies, people who never heard of the bible, etc) deserve to go to hell because a magical talking snake convinced one woman thousands of years ago to eat one fruit? Isn't that just a little unfair? And what the hell was wrong with eating the fruit anyway? Whats wrong with knowledge of good and evil? If Adam and Eve couldn't comprehend evil, how could they understand that eating the fruit was wrong? Hopefully your question was just a really bizarre joke....
Christianity makes no sense at all.
If you want to be a Christian, you have to leave logic and common sense at the door.
So, why is it there are so many Christians, you ask?
Well, never underestimate the power of self delusion... If someone really 'wants' something to be true, It is very easy for them to convince themselves that it is.
You have not committed the ultimate sin. God's desire is to forgive. Keep searching and asking questions. The Bible is understood well when looked at in "covenant" light. Old covenant and New covenant, that's salvation history. A good book on "Biblical hermeneutics" would help as well - every Christian needs this to know how to interpret Scripture (literally, figuratively, metaphor, apocalyptic language, how to let Scripture interpret Scripture, instead of trying to figure out difficult text through our modern day filters, etc.)
Have you ever seen the film "Tombstone?" Wyatt Earp was so hurt by his brother's death that he rebuked the loving arms of the woman he loved. When he saw her again days later, he started to say he was sorry, but she interrupted and said, "I forgave you the moment you said it." That's an example of our God. He runs to forgive you even before you ask. Once you ask, you begin to feel that He was always there.
