Is a 250 dollar a month raise good?
I live in Honolulu and my professor is from Seattle, WA. I want to move there and I asked him a few questions. He told me there is more economic opportunities in Seattle and he was making more money there than here. He used to teach at my high school and currently teaches at my community college. I did not ask him how much he gets paid because that's rude and none of my business but he did mention he gets paid less than working for a high school. I researched online and I checked the average salaries in Seattle and Hawaii. Not sure how accurate this is but most jobs were a thousand dollars less in Seattle than Hawaii but since Seattle has no state income tax, People in Seattle ended up having 3000 dollars more annually compared to the average hawaiian resident. When you do the math its 250 dollars more a month, Is that a significant difference? I don't work and I am not independently living so I don't know.
Update:@ Hannah, Seattle is also an expensive city, if anything its only slightly cheaper than Hawaii. I checked safeway online and groceries are only 50 cents to a dollar cheaper but I guess there is also no sales tax on them like Hawaii which taxes everything you buy but he told me eating out in Seattle is about the same as eating out in Hawaii.

Yes, that is a good raise.
Since you have no job anything above $1 is good.
The cost related to weather will be a bigger impact, such as snow and cold.
The cost of living in Hawaii is very much higher than Washington State, no matter who you work for or what your job is so I don't buy your $250 a month. Your friend now has considerably more money to spend in Seattle than he did in Hawaii.
