Seventh Grade Math Help! Algebra. Please Help!?

1. Mt. Rainer, in Washington, has a higher elevation than Mt. Shasta (14,162 feet). The difference between their elevations is 248 feet. What is the elevation of Mt. Rainer. What is the elevation of Mt. Rainer? Write an equation and solve.

Isn't is like 14,162-r=?

Or something?

2. Suppose n-15 was a whole number. What do you know about the value of n? Explain.

Whole numbers? Say what? I need definitions or something!

Thanks! :D

  • Okay. Just calm down! I will help you. :)

If you know that Mt. Rainer is higher than Mt. Shasta by 248 ft, then all you do is add 248 ft. to the height of Mt. Shasta. So, it will be 14,162 + 248 ft., which is 14,410 ft. To write an equation, set it up like this:

HMS+248=HMR (HMS= height Mt. Shasta, 14,162; HMR= height Mt. Rainer)

    14,162+248=HMR

    14,410=HMR

For the second one, if you know n-15 is a whole number, n itself must be a whole number. Whole numbers are not fractions or decimals-- they are regular numbers like 2, or 7, or 58. Just plug in any value for n to see what I mean, like 90:

    90-15= 75

75 is not a fraction or a decimal, so it is a whole number!

    Hope I helped!
