possible senarios for problem with car?
related to another question ive asked but diff details;
car is a peugeot 106 1995 model 954cc engine 4 gear 48000 on clock, bought end of jan
whistles at higher speeds (50-70mph) higher pitch higher speed when taking foot off accelerater, whistling stops when accelerating.
squeaks/rattles when starting off (cold engine), and when (hot engine) stopping/slowing down for traffic lights ect at speeds of 25mph or less, what could be the issue

I think you may have two different problems. The rattling could be anything loose on the chassis, such as a loose heat shield or a loose exhaust pipe or muffler. Should be easy to spot on a lift. The more interesting problem is the whistling. You probably have a vacuum leak somewhere. Whenever the engine is running it is creating a vacuum at the intake manifold. This vacuum is often used to operate the power brake booster, perhaps the heating/cooling controller for your cabin, and may be tied to the ignition timing advance device as well as the gas fume recirculator system. The common problem with these systems is they all use rubber hoses to route the vacuum to where it is needed. As old as the Peugot is, it is possible that there is a cracked line or fitting somewhere in the engine compartment. You should be able to hear this whistling whilst the engine is idling, so tracking it down may be possible. One common leak is where the line goes into the power brake booster, so try moving the line a round a bit and see if it gets louder or even goes away. Patience is required. I don't know much about Peugot, but am assuming that it is fuel injected and not carburetted. If it does have a carburettor, make sure it is not leaking at the pivot shaft where the throttle linkage is located. I drive an old 1984 Dodge and this is where I have found a noisy leak in the past. Fix is a new carb though.
The engine vacuum builds up high when you take your foot off the accelerator pedal. This will make a vacuum leak point on the engine more apparent because of the whistling sound of air being drawn through the vacuum leak hole. But if that's the cause, you should hear it at engine idle too. Another possibility is any bearing in a rotating engine part or accessory that goes under a heavier load when accelerating.
Well chech you fan belts and loose parts. The heat ricer could be broke in the exhaust. This item will make the rattles sound at low speed. Also check the heat sheilds for be loose.
