Is America a free country?
Seems to me there are a lot more restricitions in some cases in the US regarding personal freedom than some other countries (not all) which don't necessarily boast about being "free".
PS. I am an American who loves my country. Just so you know where I am coming from. It just seems like there are a lot of unnecessary rules particulary regarding the moderate consumption of alcohol. Even walking down the street with a can of beer could get you a ticket in some areas.
But, I don't want to limit the scope of this question to alcohol.
And I question the fact that we have true freedom of speech. If our opinion is not popular we can be heavily sanctioned just ask Andy Rooney, Rush Limbaugh, and Jimmy the Greek, John Lennon and anybody pro-Cuba etc...

I see where you are coming from. We are for the most part free, but there are A LOT of restrictions here. My husband is an immigrant and he thinks some of our rules are funny.
Like, gambling is illegal in most places. He thinks nothing of going into a betting shop (there's at least one in every town in his home country) and placing a bet on a horserace.
Also, he thinks it's funny that our television is censored and we can't say or show certain things on regular tv. In Europe, for the most part, anything after 9pm doesn't have to be edited for content.
He thinks it's weird we're not allowed to travel to Cuba. It's just the little things like that.
But, I'd rather live here than most other places!! I love my country too, but I don't like being made to feel like I'm constantly being watched by the thought-police.
united statesa. is regularly free. I rigidity regularly, nicely perhaps it is going to be particularly, regardless of the undeniable fact that it truly isn't easily free. there's a non secular dominance, yet that comes from the regulations on which the country grow to be depending. Christianity led the way, and it nonetheless dominates immediately because (a million) the final public of the inhabitants falls interior that faith and (2) custom. i imagine united statesa. is making an attempt to be extra free suitable to race, yet this takes time. it isn't any longer merely the authorities it is the individuals of society who proceed to make race an difficulty. And sexuality, is starting to be a lot less free. The gay-marriage debate truly would not make you imagine of "land of the free", does it? it is ridiculous, yet because it is a extra contemporary difficulty/challenge, then i'm confident that merely as with race/segregation, it is going to take a even as to mellow out. I agree that some freedoms are not accessible, yet for the most section we relish multitudes of freedom that different countries do not.
Really no were is there ever free. I mean if that happens the place would go up in flames. But really America I find have a lot more freedom then anywhere else. I used to live in a communist contry and it was really restricted and bad. Over here it's so much better
all countries have limitations on what is acceptable and what is not. I can't go and rob astore, kill some one, or (in some places spit on the side walk )without consequences.
the law and public opinion are WAY off..........
It was until the IRS was created. We've been paying ever since
