  • Let the efficiency of first car be x miles per gallon

    THEN , the efficiency of second car WILL BE ( 70-x) miles per gallon

    Distance = 35x + 30 ( 70-x) = 2250

    35x + 2100 -30x = 2250

    5x = 150

    x = 30

    ANSWER First car = 30 miles per gallon Second car = 40 miles per gallon

    CHECK

    35 X 30 = 1050 miles

    40 X 30 = 1200 miles

    ADD = 2250 miles
