Does a uterine/endometrial biopsy hurt?
I have to have a biopsy next month because my doctor has noticed a thickened endometrial lining and wants to check for hyperplasia or early cancer. I asked what the process of the biopsy involved, and she pretty much just said "It's like a pap test". Okay, so I know what a Pap test is like, but from anyone who knows, what is a uterine biopsy REALLY like? Does it hurt? Am I numbed beforehand? How long does it take, and will the Gynecologist also do a pap smear at the same time? Will I be in pain afterwards? Any information from anyone who has been through this before would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If your doctor is just doing a uterine /endometrial biopsy (and not a D and C) this procedure can be done in the office.
You will prepare just like getting a Pap test - (on the table in the stirrups etc.)
He may numb your cervix.
It will take anywhere from 5 to 15 minutes .
They will insert a tool and do the scraping to get a sample.
This does cause cramping (kind of like bad menstrual cramps (Sorry !it does hurt)
ºAfterwards, they will give you a pad because you can bleed some afterwards.
You can rest for a few minutes but after that I was ready to drive myself home.
You can take some Advil or or Aleve before the procedure and this may minimize the cramping.
By the time I got home in 15 minutes I did not have any cramping or pain.

Does Endometrial Biopsy Hurt
Usually, this is very transient and a decent dose of ibuprofen as soon as you get home takes care of the problem. Second, many of their "nurses" are not actually nurses and cannot give medications. Because of this, they keep NO medications at their clinics. You now know what you should do when it is time for your next biopsy.
