Why do special effects look less convincing over time?
I was watching a movie from around 2004 and the special effects looked corny, fake, and clearly CGI. However, i remember when i first saw the movie, i thought it all looked very realistic. Why is this? I could understand special effects just getting better, but come i couldnt see how CGI it was in the first place?

Because you get desensitized to the CGI the more you see it. That's why Christopher Nolan's movies look amazing--there's minimal CGI; most of it is *real*.
Desensitization. That's it.
just about all CGI is garbage it depends on a fleeting glimpse on the first showing but they are no substitute for reality most CGI heavy movies are bordering on cartoons like gladiator and titanic with its cardboard cartoon ship and the actors not knowing where to look because when they shoot it there is nothing to look at
Because thats the only thing you knew at the time. Things get dated, just like technology.
