Macbook or DSLR camera?

I have saved up enough money to purchase the macbook pro I want. It may not seem like an issue, but now I am stuck inbetween a nice DSLR camera that costs the same price. I am 15 and want to be a photographer, so I was thinking the camera, but with out the laptop i will have no where to edit or really store my pictures! PS. i am not some spoiled teenage girl, I saved this money and am purchasing this stuff myself. So either the Canon EOS 7D or a Macbook Pro with retina?

  • Lets visit B&H and find out what they have to offer

Canon EOS 7D Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens Kit

    $1,599, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/680674-REG/C...

Now let us explore what we can get for that money

A nice decent laptop with a Core i3 cpu

    ASUS X55C-DS31 15.6" Notebook Computer

    $429, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/924694-REG/a...

A nice dSLR with a rugged construction and weather sealing

Pentax K-30 Digital Camera with DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR Zoom Lens

    $597, http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/898074-REG/P...

And you total $1,026, meaning $573 still in hand

So there is ample scope for you to still play around and get some other systems, should you so desire. The solution is in your hands

All and all dSLR's function similarly, a few features here and there

  • I've got a niece that swears by the 'mac', I've never used one to be honest so can't advise, I always tend to suggest popping into a camera store to chat your thoughts over with an adviser - you should consider this, the amount of money you are investing is worth the wait, to gather the best information before you commit to your purchase.

I use a Nikon D5100 and a windows desktop, backed up with a couple of windows laptops, I don't have my desktop connected to the internet - this keeps it 'stable' - it cost me a fortune and is now almost 15 years old...it edits photos without any problems though. You could buy a camera and a 'computer' with your budget by making some compromises - although sometimes it's best to 'follow' your own heart and just go for it - perhaps if it's the Macbook pro you want, then buy it and then save up for a DSLR - Check out all the cameras though and buy the one that you like, not the one that you see in C.S.I or in the movies - The camera I use has features on it that I never access, so I doubt very much if you do actually have the 'need' for the 7D.

I've been interested and active in photography for over 30 years

  • MacBook Pro

  • Get a Windows PC and the camera. Should be cheap enough for both

  • Mac!!!! Please!!!! Buying a camera around $1000 is stupid!!! Get a laptop!!! The camera will be outdated in 2 years. If you're gonna spend a lot on a dslr, wait til you get enough for a full frame camera.

  • Get a not as nice camera and a nicer windows machine for around $700. Macs are rip offs.
