I'm scared/embarrassed (Dental Problem)?
I'm 14 and when I was younger and even now; I did take pretty decent care of my teeth (not the best care but pretty decent) but my mother never took me to the dentist and I don't think I have insurance so I have this one tooth that's been decaying since I was about 11 or 12 and I'm kind of ashamed and embarrassed. Already about 1/2 of it is gone and it looks terrible and infected on the inside and I think I should've gotten a root canal a LONG time ago but I feel like it's too late. I'm only 14 and I don't know what to do. What are the bad things that can happen; and how can I solve this. I don't know why I feel so bad/ashamed about it; I just do. It could be worst though I guess... I just wish I could go back in time and take AMAZING care of my teeth. I guess I'm mostly sad and worried about it because it's a permanent tooth. It's my left first premolar tooth by the way

You should not feel embarrassed. Many people can not afford dental care. I skipped going to the dentist for many years because I could not afford it. My gums were in bad shape, but I caught it early enough to avoid major damage with bone loss. You are still young, but try not to put it off any longer before it becomes a worse (more expensive) problem down the line. Show your mother what is bothering you. She might not know that your problem is so serious yet. Tell her you need to see a dentist. Root canals can cost a lot of money out of pocket, but you are worth it. If your mother does not take you to the dentist while your health is at risk, that is dental neglect which is illegal.
I know how you feel. It happened to me once but with my baby premolar tooth, now for you, they have to pull your teeth so it wont go inside your mouth becauase the roots can affect your whole mouth and probably your teeth, so to prevent that wash your teeth every morning, afternoon and night...that wont be as good as going to the dentist but it will help, and if you do go to the dentist, tell him about it, he will help you
