when a computer makes changes to data it writes the data in the most convenient physical location on your hard drive. Over time data regarding one thing is scattered all over the drive, make it slower to fetch the data next time its needed. Defragging moves the data back to one location.

Their are two much better (and very popular) defragging utilities available free. They are: Smart Defrag, and Auslogic Disk Defrag.
they're equally good, very simple to use. Once a month run the program, hit analyze. if your hard drive over 2% fragmented, allow it to defrag. Less than that wont make any difference and adds unnecessary work for your hard drive. You wont notice much of a difference after a defrag unless its close to 10% fragmented before

I doubt that's going to help along with your situation. attempt to think of roughly what replaced in the whole pc once you began noticing issues, some thing probably replaced

Choose the disk drive that you want to de-frag and click on the Defragment button.

In windows Select and Right Click the disk /partition you want to defrag. Next click on TOOLS tab. Click on defrag.
