Comma/No Comma?? "Happy birthday, Sara" VS "Happy birthday Sara"?
I've always thought it was "Happy birthday, Sara." But now that I think about it I don't know why there would be a comma. What is it? And what about "Thank you, Sara?"
Comments
If you are addressing a person, the name is set off with a comma/commas.
Happy birthday, Sara. Thank you, Sara.
Sara, you are a good friend. The thing I like about you, Sara, is that you are a good friend.
Happy Birthday Comma
Whenever you make a statement or ask a question and you direct it to the person you are speaking with, you always place a comma before their name.
EXAMPLE: Thank you, Sara. Happy birthday, Sara.
The comma is correct in both cases.
Ive heard it before but its funny. Star
