Is my teacher a communist?

Throughout the year, my teacher has always talked about how the Chinese is and will surpass us in everything. He hates the American government, both Democrats and Republicans. Also hates liberals and conservatives. He claims that if the Soviet Union never dissolved, they would have taken over the U.S. He also bragged the other day about his Russian sweater vest. And these are only a few things. Students in my class believe he is a Communist, what do you guys think?

P.S. He plans to get a petition to ban lunch from school starting next year.

  • Does he mutter on about a "Mr. Bond" a lot? Let's examine the statements.

"The Chinese will surpass us in everything."

There are about four times more Chinamen than Americans. The USA has traditionally been the greater nation because of a better economical system. But things are changing, and China is developing much quicker than the USA is financially. More workers, more factories, technological know-how (after all, everything is made in China): China will possibly surpass the USA. "When?" is another question.

    "I hate the American government."

Most people in the world do, including a lot of Americans.

"I hate Democrats and Republicans, liberals and conservatives."

A vehement anti-political type? Still, plenty of Americans would agree.

"If the Soviet Union never dissolved, they would've taken over the USA."

If the Soviet Union hadn't collapsed in 1991, they would have collapsed in 1992. Or 1993. They were simply worn out and wouldn't have the strength to wage war against the most powerful military alliance in history, NATO and friends. It could have been one hell of a war, and probably lead to nuclear weapons ripping up the earth, but it would quite simply never have ended with Soviet victory. They didn't have the manpower, money or equipment to win that war. And they knew it, which is why they never declared it.

"My Russian sweater vest is really cool."

Russian sweater vests ARE really cool. Motion carried.

"Lunch should be banned from school."

What the hell? Any particular reasons for this?

In conclusion, your teacher sounds like a weirdo. And yes, he might very well have communist sympathies. There's nothing wrong in liking communism, it's not a bad and scary word like it once was.

Communism will simply never work because it's based in impractical and unreasonable ideals, and every communist country has managed to run itself into the ground. However, he's right about China being able to overcome many of the differences of a communist system, they will surpass the USA as a world power at some point, 50 years from now.

So when I say your teacher is a weirdo, I mean that he has odd extreme views, is politically uninformed, naive and unintelligent, while choosing benign issues to feel like an activist. I wouldn't worry about it.

But please, if he's brewing on a political speech to the class any time soon, post it on youtube! And link it as a comment. Political weirdos make wonderful entertainment.

  • Hehh, looks like you have already decided he is a commi and just want verification. To me, he mostly looks frustrated with our government/s given the situation today. 1. Will the Chinese surpass us in education? Yes and no. In quantity, absolutely yes. In theoratical sciences, engg, medicine etc. sadly China will surpass US. But US will always be better in quality, research and in the levels of communication and creativity. 2. China is progressing because of CAPITALISM - not socialism/communism. It's well known, so supporting china does not make one a communist. 3. If Soviet Union never dissolved they would have won the war on ideas. Just like US apparently did when USSR dissolved. 4. About Stalin's vest. I guess he was just baiting students. Like some others said, maybe he is loony or has personal issues. 5. Banning lunch from school, hmmmm, dunno. Did he say something about school-funded-uniforms? Did he say that he wanted to start a cooperative where there would be equality of labor and returns :-)? Reminds me of a certain Seinfeld episode..

  • No, just because he's pessimistic about the future of the USA, that doesn't make him a communist. He likes Russian stuff, that's ok, that doesn't make you a communist.

You should ask him why he wants to get school lunch banned. If he says anything but "the capitalist-facist American government uses school lunch to get kids hooked on fats and sugar so they'll be complacent consumers when they grow up.",.... he's not a communist.

  • Does everybody in the class get the same grade? There's your answer.

  • Yea. Most likely.

  • If he ever says "There is no 'I', there is only 'we'," he is DEFINITELY a commie.
