Is Nas a Legitimate Number 1?

8 straight platinum albums....half of them multi (Not adding the lost tapes)

Accomplished lyricist

Longevity

Battle Tested

Meaningful

Commercial Hits

Critical Acclaim For his albums

Isn't this enough of a catelog to say he is Number 1 all time. If not, then why and who else?

Eminem is up there as well.

Update:

Talib Fiasco....Interesting...ok i will take you on that offer...Give me 50 emcees that are more accredited than Eminem and possess the same or better lyrical talent or ability

Update 3:

o_O: Kick the Game out of that list and you ok.lol.

Game Is cool but no dice on the top spot...especially if we are talking all time.

Update 5:

Also Substance is too subjective. In deciding who is best you have to take the least subjective things out and then make a list.If you consider substance then you would have to go into what exactly makes particualr lyrics something of substance. And that varriers from person to person and experience to experience...which is too biased to consider. Also its not about what you rap about,or how many things you rap about...its how you rap about them.If i can do 50 songs about coke and make all of them dope and unique and get praise for it then i shouldn't be held from a position simply because i didn't do anything different. If thats the case then lets say Clipse isn't one of the best groups out now.

Rakim, yeah i see that...And personally i see Big Daddy Kane being another choice, but after them and Eminem i don't see anyone else Over Nas.

I understand you take on Influence, but influence is something that comes with the territory of being a profitable, talented aritst. Sales and Skills.

Update 7:

Also jesse...outside of just stating that G rap was dope and a godfather of rap, you really haven't said much of a reason why he is number 1.

  • The only thing he doesn't have is starting earlier. But that's not his fault. And guys before him who weren't as good (KRS-One) shouldn't be awarded only for starting earlier. Nas is better than him, then he is higher on the list.

The only people I think could be ahead are Rakim (started earlier BUT is also just as skilled. He also influenced Nas) or Big Daddy Kane. (Same thing)

But Nas is #1 on my list.

  • Yo u got to also factor influence, substance, range (being able to rap about different things, sales, and etc.

If I had to make a list I would put influence as the biggest factor than 2nd range, 3rd talent, 4th sales.

    my list would be

    1. Rakim- Influenced many rappers (nas, biggie, tupac, and etc) to take it a step futher with his complex lyrics and smooth flow.

    2. Tupac- The guy had the most range of all MCs (from songs like dear Mama to Ballad of dead soulja). He is overrated but his poetic rhymes and crazy flow. Plus he has the most sales of all MCs.

    3. Nas- His crazy wordplay plus longevity make a def top 3 and maybe best.

    4. GZA- Easily the most talented MC of all-time. His work on the WU can easily put him the top 10 but the epic liquid sordz puts in the top five.

    5. Kool G Rap- B4 raekwon's OB4CL Kool was the orginial creator of mafiso rap. ill flow with hard hitting lyrics.

    On the Bubble.

    Biggie

    Jay-Z

    Andre 3000

    Ghostface Killah

    AZ

    KRS-One

  • he is definitely a good argument

i don't think how many records you sell is a means to make a person number one just look at Soulja Boy

multi platinum = complete ***** in his case

but one of the founding fathers of hip hop

Kool G Rap is the best Emcee of all time

when his music first came out it was groundbreaking and changed hip hop forever and he didn't stop there he evolved as time went on and his newer stuff is still on point

  • I'd say he definitely makes a legit argument for number 1. His only fault is out of his control in that he didn't start around the time Rakim and KRS-One did. I would say Eminem does not deserve to be in the top fifty best ever.

  • Anti-Virus Number-1 (also known as Anti-Virus Number 1) is not the kind of software it pretends to be. In fact, Anti-Virus Number-1 is a fake spyware remover designed to trick people into purchasing its registered version. The methods Anti-Virus Number-1 applies for attaining its fraudulent goals are varied and involve misleading pop-ups, fake scanners and other “pranks” of the attendant backdoor trojans. Being the newest successor of Anti-Virus-1 and Antivirus 2010 rogue anti-spyware programs, Anti-Virus Number-1 is no different in its deceiving people and making them think their computers are badly infected, while they are actually not. The Trojan that precedes the intrusion of Anti-Virus Number-1 triggers fake alerts and browser helper objects reading “Privacy violation alert” and “Internal conflict alert”. If you try clicking these pop-ups, even to close them, you will unknowingly launch the procedure of Anti-Virus Number-1 hidden installation. Having been installed this way, Anti-Virus Number-1 will run numerous scanners that claim to detect more infections. This whole brainwashing strategy aims at intimidating you into paying for Anti-Virus Number-1 commercial software which purportedly fixes PC errors and removes infections. Do not get tricked by Anti-Virus Number-1, do not purchase its “license” – it is a rogue anti-spyware and ought to be treated as such. Get rid of Anti-Virus Number-1 ASAP if your system is infected with this corrupt and nasty malware.

  • Yup...

And Lost tapes was classic.. but not a real album i guess.

People hate on Em... just cuz a person might not relate to some of his lyrics,, but a person can't deny skill. He is definitly in the convo for G.O.A.T but people hate.. and say "he is only considered good cuz he is white..." that is B.S.

  • Yeh i think he is a good candidate for hip hop number one. I think that the number 1 should be any of the following

    Tupac

    BIG

    NAS

    Eminem

    Dr Dre

    Ice Cube

    Common

The Game - Underated by the "real" hip hop fans in my opinion

  • Yes he would, but you have to give it up to people that came before him.

    1. Rakim

    2. Slick rick

    3. KRS-One

    4. Nas

In that order for best lyrical mainstream rappers.

  • Nyl, Can you keep this open? I have serious input to give on this subject...I just don't see myself doing it with my iPhone. I was gonna ask a similar Q. Oh and definitely on Eminem.

  • Yes. I would give it to him or Jay-Z. I know thumbs down, but you can't fade the real.
