System for a 2001 Subaru Impreza RS?

I would like to know what would be the best set up for a system in a 2001 subaru impreza rs. I have atleast 1500 grand to put into a stereo system. I would like to know what speakers could withstand atleast 2800 watts of power.

  • I've posted this before, but it should provide you with a some help.

The components of a good car sound system would be as follows: The source (cd player, in-dash dvd/nav system, radio, tape player, etc.), the speakers, the subs, the amps, the parts/wiring. Also, depending on how big of a system, possibly a new battery or two and an alternator. Here are some of my recommendations as far as good brands.

Deck: Eclipse, Pioneer (regular or premier), Alpine, Kenwood Excelon, Nakamichi (not the greatest looking, but great sound).

Speakers: Polk Audio, Infinity, Eclipse, Pioneer Rev High end: Focal, Boston, MB Quart, Nakamichi

Subs: JL Audio, MTX, Kicker, Eclipse, Audiobahn, Memphis, Hifonics, Diamond Audio, Fosgate (p3 and higher), RE Audio

Amps: all the sub companies, plus, Precision Power, Crossfire, Cadence, Soundstream, US Amps

Parts/Wiring: Monster, Tsunami, Streetwires, even Kicker and Fosgate make decent parts/wiring.

There are many other good companies out there, this is just a list of a few.

Now if I had to choose, here would be my choices:

    Deck: Eclipse or Pioneer

Speakers: Polk Audio, Infinity, or Eclipse

    Amps/Subs: JL Audio or MTX

    Wiring: Tsunami or Monster

As far as the order in which to purchase (if you can't do it all at once) here would be my suggestion:

First replace you speakers (stock stereo with good speakers sounds better then aftermarket stereo with stock speakers),

Then replace the deck (it'll help the speakers, but it will also give you the foundation to build the rest of the system off of)

Next, subs/amps/wiring (give you that extra bass that you need, make sure you use good wiring and the right size, capacitors if needed, important for system, also as far as the wiring, remember you will need another amp for speakers)

Next, amp for speakers (speakers will play cleaner, tighter, more accurate, and louder - a must, especially with the subs)

After that its all just accessories: i.e. satellite radio, navigation, dvd player, screens, etc.

Now as far as where to get them, most of these companies will be available at Circuit City, BestBuy, Cardomain.com, Cruthfield.com. Others are only sold at authorized dealers (usually a local audio company), but you'll have to check out their websites in order to find the ones nearest you.

As far as cost, I would say a decent FULL system would start around 1200 installed and then just go up from there. Now just new speakers and a deck, I'd say around 450 and up for a good setup completely installed.

But in the end these are just my recommendations (based on quality and sound), like Sparky said only you can judge what you like. Everyone's ears are a little different so what sounds good to me may not sound good to you. Shop around at all the car audio dealers and take a listen, but make sure you take one of your cds with you so you can judge all of them with the same song (one that you are familiar with). Email me if you have any questions, hope this helps.

  • Hmm, do you mean you have 15 grand to spend, or 1500 bucks? 1500 grand is 1.5 million dollars so I 'm sure you meant one of the others. With $15K you can do alot, but $1500 is going to leave you a little strapped. You mentioned that you wanted speakers that could handle 2800 watts?...does this mean you already have an amp that has that much power, or are you just wanting that much? If you're just wanting that much, then you're goin to be seriously under-funded. The only way you could get that much wattage with $1500 would be to go by some crappy brand's peak power ratings and buy a few of their crappy amps...like a Boss or Audiobahn amp that claims to push 2000 watts but only actually produces 300 or 400 at dangerous noise levels that can blow your speakers.

If you are starting from scratch, then I'd recommend getting a decent CD player, 2 good component sets and a good 4 channel amp. With installation, this will probably gobble up most of your $1500. Then, save some more $$ and buy a couple of 10's or 12's for your trunk and a mono amp to push them.

    Good luck and enjoy.

  • OK read teh 1st and 3rd answers...they were good.

My personal choices for a 2001 RS are:

Head Unit: Alpine (whatever one you want preferably with 3 sets of pre outs)

Front Door Speakers: MB Quart Reference Series 5.25" Components (if you can't afford it the Discus series is not bad as well but much cheaper)...you may be able to fit 6.5"s in there as well but the 5.25"s should be fine.

Rear Speakers: MB Quart 5.25" Coaxials (whichever fits the budget)

Sub: 1 10" JL Audio W6 in the spare tire well (you can get a box made or DIY). This will lessen the impact of the weight of the sub in regards to its effect on the car's center of gravity.

Amp for Front & Rear Speakers: Anything you want from Alpine, Kenwood etc...look for 4 x 60 Watts or so (just match what your speakers can handle)

Amp for Sub: See above...look for about 500 watts.

You may need a capacitor as well for that sub amp. Subaru electrical systems suck hard (I had a 2002 WRX). You may also want to invest in an upgraded battery (with this setup you won't need the 2nd battery).

You should be happy with this setup unless you want to pound super hard and look like the obnoxious fool at the local strip mall. 28,000 watts may be overkill.

  • The Subaru WRX STI is the fastest Subaru Impreza model, the Impreza WRX is the second fastest, and the Subaru Impreza Turbo Base is the base model.
