Kansas City volunteer opportunities?

Next February, I'll be attending a meeting in Kansas City with approximately 60 attendees. We'd like to give back to the host city in some way but we are limited to a short window of time in the morning on the day our meeting starts (Friday, February 20, 2009). I estimate about 20-30 people would be available from 8am - 11am that day. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • That's a very admirable idea there, and I wish you the best with it.

This far out, the hard details on a lot of the one-day operations probably aren't set, but there are sure to be a lot of opportunities. I am listing in my sources a few web resources for connecting volunteers with volunteering opportunities in the area, as well as the page for Operation Breakthrough, a great center for underprivileged kids. lastly is the official site for KC, MO. If nothing else, I'm sure that someone calling up with the offer of 20-30 volunteers for a morning can find some advice from someone in the city government.

    Good luck with your endeavor!

  • Being you will be coming in Feb.,I suggest that each of your group bring along aheavy wieght winter coat and donate it to "The City Union Mission". That way you can help keep a homeless person warm during our very cold winters.

  • Harvester's is a great choice. I've volunteered there sorting food, etc. They played an instructional video before we began, and it was amazing to see how much food is provided to the area, and how organized it really is.

  • Wayside Waifs is the biggest animal shelter/humane society in the area. They are always looking for volunteers. Their website is www.waysidewaifs.org. Check them out. They do amazing things there!!

  • properly, if its no longer for college flow to Ranch Bowl on 80 two & state ave. I worked for my mom while she worked there. in case you tell them which you will possibly prefer to vollenteer then they're going to ecxept you. Now in case you do no longer prefer to try this any scientific institution will settle for you. I vollenteered at Ranch West. i'm decrease than age too yet do no longer flow into the bar in any different case Rita(the mananger) will chew you out.
