Computer processor help?
I found this cheap build online, I'm trying to save money as much as possible, and want to use my old processor if possible.
The processor is a AMD Athlon x2 5000 2.6GHZ (i don't really understand what that means, but yeah.)
http://www.informatics-tech.com/build-a-cheap-400-...
is where the build actually is, I'm pretty sure it FITS, but if it's just gonna damage my other parts then I have no problem throwing down more money on the processor it says.
SO the main question is,
Can I use this? I have this 2.6GHZ processor from an Acer Inspire x1200 that I used to have.
If it doesn't damage anything else I'm fine if I have to cut down on the multitasking, all I need to run is Skype and League of Legends, (not even on high settings if necessary).
Also, what is overclocking? I honestly have no idea.
- Does HardDrive space affect CPU overclocking? I have an old, lower space hard drive if it effects anything negatively.

Hio,
I am reasonably sure that the cpu does not fit in that motherboard as it has an AM3 socket.
If anyone says that it does make sure they know what they are talking about as I have researched it and it is a bit confusing, so I'm not 100% sure.
Overclocking is where the cpu us made to run faster than it was designed to by increasing the clock speed and or voltage, the same can be done for some video cards.
Generally is has the disadvantage of putting more load on the cpu thereby shortening it's life and if done too much can leave to instability.
However, some cpu's have been designed for overclocking.
If you do a google search you can read all about it.
Hard drives have no effect on overclocking but an older slower hard drive will effect the overall speed of the pc when data has to be read or written to the drive.
When the pc's memory fills up some memory has to be cleared to make way for more for programs to use so some of the data is passed out to the hard drive and read back when required so obviously a slow hard drive will take time to read and write.
That area on the hard drive is called the virtual memory or swap memory.
If you have any more questions just mail me.

A micro atx motherboard is a really small motherboard, not like your regular desktop pc.
But as long as the cpu fits in the motherboard it's fine, look at the socket type.
Overclocking is simply said getting more out of your hardware, i.e your cpu runs at a speed of
2.6GHZ, some people like to oc (overclock) it to 3GHZ+- by running more current trough the hardware.
A Hard drive or its space doesn't affect the cpu. Maybe only in that a cpu is way faster than a hard drive.
That is a no I am afraid on the processor the processor you need has to be a AM3 socket and the one you have is an AM2 socket. as for overclocking the simplest definition is to give the processor more juice like the old one you have is 2.6 GHZ if you change some setting you can give that processor more GHZ or even MHZ, but the down side if you give it to much it will fry and then you have a broken computer there is also under clocking where you lower it lower that 2.6 in hope you get a longer life but you lose proformance with the more GHZ the fast your you computer can process and overclocking will make it fast but intern you can lose life on the processor as well.
you need to check the socket the processor uses and the socket your new motherboard uses, it's not jsut a case of sticking it in. Also, AMD processors are not generally as good as Intel and I would really recommend splashing a wee bit extra out on an intel.
hard drives doesn't affect much, just how quickly programs are loaded, and how much can be stored.
P.S I wouldn't recommend overclocking, you really don't seem to know very much(if anything) about computers
just checked and thats a no, the socket's are different, AM2 for the cpu and AM3 for the motherboard
A Processor or (cpu) is like a brain it calculates and carries out instructions
Overclocking means boosting your cpu for alittle bit more speed and preformance.
Good luck.
check & see it going to fit in the socket, no want damage ur HDD, but will burnout ur mobo if turned up to HI
