Is Judge Judy a real judge?

Or is it just a load of rubbish for the tv cameras?

  • Yes, but retired. She is now a arbitrator.

Judge Judy (Judith Scheindlin) retired from public service in 1996, after 14 years, presiding over 20,000 cases as a judge in New York City. She is still a qualified attorney in the State of New York.

  • Real Judge

  • She was once an actual judge. Now she is an actor. The persons on the exhibit have agreed to binding arbitration. That is, they have got agreed to drop their legal claim and let the former choose rule. If they re-neg, it's not a tort however rather a contract dispute, that a real ( in which I mean having current legal authority) decide will rule. They mimic a real court room, however it is modified to entertainment puposes. The legal guidelines of evidnce are comfortable practically into non-existence although you will find her becoming a bit of stressed when, for the sake of the exhibit, she listens to evidently non-admisable hearsay.

  • Yes she is a real Judge

  • Yeah, she is. Do you think we just took some random old lady off the street and made her a judge? You could easily google judge judy and see her biography

  • if it looks like a real judge and sounds like a real judge, its a real judge

  • Yes she is a real judge. If I remember rightly I think her "specialist" area was family law. :)
