Algebra help real quick please?
if y varies directly with x, and when y is 24, x is 6 what is y when x is 9?
Write the equation in slope-intercept form for the line that goes through the points (1,3) and (2,5)
Solve (3a - 4b) over 2 = c for the letter b
Update:Thank you guys for all your help, appreciate it
Comments
24 / 6 = y / 9
6y = 216
y = 36.
Remember y = mx + b
(1,3) and (2.5) in slope-intercept form would be...
y = 2x + 1
(3a - 4b) / 2 = c for the letter b.
3a - 4b = 2c
-4b = 2c - 3a
b = (2c - 3a) / -4
The statement "y varies directly with x" can be written: y=mx
If y=24 and x=6 then m=4
When x=9 then y=4x9=36
Second question: y=mx+b for (1,3) 3=m+b for (2,5) 5=2m + b
substitute and solve for m: 5=2m+(3-m) ==> m=2
You can find this from (5-3)/(2-1) the change in y/change in x as well = 2
Then solve for b ==> b=1
y=2m+1
Third question:
(3a-4b)/2=c multiply by 2
3a-4b=2c
-4b=2c-3a
b=(3a-2c)/4
I think the first part is 36
5=2x+b
I haven't done these equations in months so verify this is correct
I'm not sure about the answer I came up with in part 3, so ill let someone else help you with that one
(0, -4) you in basic terms could desire to alter the solutions given into the equation. -3(0) + (-4) = -4 3(0) + (-4) = -4 because the two a style of equations somewhat equivalent -4, then (0, -4) is the main strategies-blowing pair.
