Do Americans Text Message ?

Im just wondering cos Im led to believe that "Cell Phone" use is not really popular their due to incoming call and text charges and compatibility issues with different networks. Iv notice on tv that European like phones are becoming popular and the Flip "Star Trek like phones are becoming dated. Would they not be stronger Text Messengers Nightmare, opening and closing it so often Also why do you see very outdated looking flip phones in current Movies and Tv Show . Lastly why do alot now say Mobile instead of Cell Phone I even noticed on AT&T wireless they say Mobile to Mobile ????? Next thing Americans will be saying a Lift for Elevator and a Holiday for Vacation? ??

Just wondering cos if your 100% American speak the American talk don't mimic other Country's and the same vise verse.

  • no, we use messenger birds

  • Yes, many Americans text, some way too much.

Most Americans call them cell phones in general speaking terms, but some of the cell phone companies will use "mobile" I guess just because it stands out as many Americans aren't used to saying it.

As for holiday, a lot of Americans actually do say holiday a lot, but I think it's always been that way, a lot of people use them interchangeably.

  • nearly every single one of my friends, and my entire family, has an iPhone or at least some kind of smart phone. before that we had to use to flip phones but i haven't seen many of those around anymore to be honest. smart phones are becoming insanely popular. little kids have cell phones now. and yes, we text on them. i get unlimited texting, i haven't had to pay for texting since like 5 years ago, same with most of my friends. nearly all plans changed to unlimited years ago. and about the "mobile" thing, don't worry we're not trying to steal any other county's word. no one actually says "mobile". it's just a cell phone, or simply "cell". i have never heard anyone call it a mobile.

  • I can't remember the last time I saw an American teenager or preteen who wasn't texting someone constantly.

As far as the "mobile" thing goes, that's the term company's use, but I've never heard anyone actually refer to their cell as a mobile phone. It's just cell phone, or cell. Sometimes it's just phone. It's kinda sad that we use cell phones so much now, most of us don't think of a receiver and number dial/pad when we hear the word "phone."

  • Yes, I have a few people I know that live in the US and are hooked on their phone, but they only text people in the US usually. Due to the charges.

  • Yes, Americans text message.

  • Just imagine then, how screwed up American kids are going to be in the future (!)

  • No! Of course we don't! Text message is not allowed in America.
