Hi! It's not just labs that develope this rash any puppy can. A good way to help prevent this is to make sure where the pup sleeps is very clean. By this I mean that the bedding is clean and dry. If you are using a towel or something like that for him to sleep on wash it regulary with detergent with no perfume and dont use fabric softner. Also after his outside wipe off his tummy with a towel to make sure it's dry. This will also help if he has been laying in something that may irritate his skin.
Check the food your giving him. Is it a good quality food? sometimes pups will develope a rash when they are weened off mom and then started on puppy food. It's like a allergic reaction. It does tend to go away after a while but you have to keep and eye on it.
It's up to you to keep him safe and healthy so a few good things to do I have mentioned. If it persists then a vet visit is in order and then the vet can better guide you as to how to better avoid this problem.

Look for at least corn free kibble. The least amount of grains the better .There are several grain free foods available also.

My lab as a puppy got swollen ears....right away off to the vet...
Was told it was because he has an allergy to forsythia bushes....but the little rabbits living on our property live under there.
Vet said if it comes back....give him childrens Benadryl...it's just antihistamine....Work for my little (not so little now) buddy.
