Australia has had successive conservative and progressive socialist governments and that has turned the country into one of the poorest western nations on earth.
Is the United States headed in that direction?

Most likely, yes.
America has gone through tough times like these before, we need to all work together. Both Republicans and Democrats to form a better economy and stop blaming in each other. We need to show the world that were the strong superpower we once were considered to be. Its sad to see that everyone is clashing against each other. There are times when America is very liberal and times when they are very conservative. We just need to work together.
President Obama has done a great job. Your team lost the election, and America won.
The United States will be gone by 2016, so no, it will not be as poor as Australia, as it won't exist.
