My professor no longer replies to my emails, why?

So my professor always used to reply to my emails in less than a days time and now he doesn't even respond. First I asked him about making up the test I had missed and he did not reply and now he has not replied to my email asking about whether there would be any extra credit work available this semester. Why is he not responding to my emails?

  • Maybe you should check your syllabus first. The answers to whether or not he allows makeup exams or will give extra credit work may already be in there, and this could be his way of telling you that you should already know the answer to those questions (because you should have read the syllabus) or that you should go find out for yourself by reading the syllabus. It's not the approach I would take with a student (I would send them a brief email starting with "As it says in the syllabus..." instead) but it's not totally unheard of for a professor to do this either. If there is no information about this in the syllabus, go to his office ours or ask him after class some day.

I don't know how your school's email system works, but it's also possible that his inbox is full or your email is going to his spam folder and he isn't aware of it. I know that one of my old school email accounts never alerted me when something went to the spam folder, and I had to check ever day to make sure nothing important went there by mistake.

  • You said that your professor always used to reply to your emails..... Do you think it's possible you were sending too many emails" If not, I think he'd probably prefer to discuss your questions in person. Maybe it's too involved to cover in an email. If you can see him in person tell him you're still interested in making up your test and doing some extra credit work, and ask if he would like for you to come by after class so you can discuss it with him.

  • It relies upon on who i'm coping with lots of the time. it relatively is often interior 24 hours nevertheless. each now and then i will get diverse responses in an afternoon (i think if I catch them in place of work hours). How long have you ever been waiting?

  • Maybe he feels you are asking questions beyond a normal quota and if every student did that he'd be snowed under.

  • Maybe he's been busy lately and hasn't had time to check his emails.

    Try asking him in person.

  • He Prob has a new email address! call him

  • maybe he wants you to come talk to him in person. or maybe he is having email trouble.

  • maybe her wife found out and she thinks he is chering on her

or he may not be wana be in trouble

  • maybe you should talk to him or her in person instead of e-mails

  • maybe he forgot his login password
