How do I do this algebra problem?

I'm having trouble with this Algebra problem.. Y = x + 2

The directions are: Find the slope and y-intercept of the equation. Then graph. (I can do the graphing part.)

Can anyone explain to me how to do this please?

  • The point slope form is

    y = mx + b

    slope = m = rise/run = y/x

    y intercept = b

    Y = x + 2

    So the slope is 1 and the y intercept is 2. Since the y axis is at x=0 then any point on the y axis would have x = 0. So the y intercept point is (0,2).

    To graph this, put a point at (0,2). Then go up 1 and to the right 1 which should be (1,3). Put another point there. Draw a line through the points.

  • the slope is always the number in front of the x. In this case, there is no number, so just use 1. the y intercept (where the line touches the y axis) is the part without a variable next to it. So here's some examples

    y=4x-3 (Slope 4; y intercept -3)

    y=-3x+2 (Slope -3; y intercept 2)

    So in your case, the slope is one, and the y intercept is 2

  • Y=mx + b

    m is the gradient and b is the y intercept

    So the gradient is 1 (since 1 times x will just equal x)

    And 2 is the y intercept

    the y and x in equation is just the coordinate point

  • y intercept is when the line crosses the y axis

    so your x=0 therefore your y co ordinate will equal 2 y intercet = (0,2)

    by slope im thinking you mean the gradient (how steep is the line)

    when an equation is set in this way y=mx + c your m is the gradient therefore your gradient =1

    and your c is where it crosses the y axis

    c=2 so y intercept is (2,0)

  • its rather simple y= x+2 is where you start ur slope, x always starts at 0, whether it says x+34, x-29 or x+2, that number is where you start on the y axis... in your case urs is +2 now ur slope here is 1/1 how do i know that it is what is in front of your x here is how your problem look y=(1)x+2 you only have one x in your problem and we always do rise over run for the slope... so 1/1 is ur slope

  • If y = mx + b, m is slope and b is y intercept. You could write this as y = 1x + 2.
