A new poem called To parents, critique?

A child is not a book; a child is not a toy

But he is your child, part of you

You reflection on earth, but you never see

The soul. Only smiling at your reflection.

Happy at yourself, proud of your achievement

You gave birth, you bought the world

You read the books, watched the videos

Sacrificed your sleep, cursed at the screaming

Baby, building for a future, building for a tomorrow

Forgetting to see the child.

Tomorrow has arrived, you child has grown

You still smile, never hearing the pain

Never seeing the struggle, never talking

To the child as life swallows him

Unsure of his next step, taking the punches

Searching for the right thing, while

You smile, proud of your achievement.

You gave birth to a human,

But you created a monster

You gave birth to a human

But you were never the parent

You gave birth to a human

But you never saw the human

Only seeing yourself

Adoring your perfection

As it cracked

Day and night.

So you parent

You want peace on earth

Start with your child

Your want better future

See your child

You want better humanity

Talk to your child

Listen to your child

And be the parent

Not the actor.
