How does a A/T cooler work?
I understand the basics, the hot oil is pumped through a radiator where there is a heat exchange with the air. However, my question is where does the oil flow come from, is there a pump? Where are they usually mounted?

The trans fluid comes from the transmission. There is a pump mounted directly behind the torque converter inside the trans.
An automatic transmission has a high pressure pump mounted at the front of the transmission. This pump powers the gear changes and holds the clutch plates together. It also has a bypass that sends oil to the oil cooler.
there is a pump in the trans. the cooler is typically mounted in from of or inside the radiator.
