How do i do this problem??????

2/3g+1/2g=14

i don't get it help??

  • at the like terms (g) together

    2/3g + 1/2g = 7/6g

    7/6 g = 14

    solve for g

    14 (6)

    diivde by 7

  • To add 2/3g and 1/2g they need to have a common denominator. You would get this by mulitiplying 2/3g by 2/2 to get 4/6g and multiplying 1/2g by 3/3g to get 3/6. Notice that you are only multiplying by 2/2=3/3=1 so you aren't changing anything.

    Now the problem becomes:

    4/6g + 3/6g = 14

    7/6g=14

    g=14*6/7

    g=12

  • the way you stated this problem is ambiguous.

    if you mean (2/3)g + (1/2)g = 14, then simply combine using a common denominator. (4/6)g + (3/6)g = (7/6)g = 14, so g = (6/7)*14 = 6*2 = 12; g = 12

    but if you meant 2/(3g) + 1/(2g) = 14, which is how what you wrote actually reads (i'm sure you meant the first though), you have:

    2/(3g) + 1/(2g) = 14 [multiply both sides by 3g]

    2 + 3g/2g = 14*3g [multiply both sides by 2g]

    4g + 3g = 14*6g^2

    84g^2 - 7g = 0

    g(84g -7) = 0

    g = 7/84

    or g = 0

    like i said, i'm sure you meant the first one, but you need to carefully observe order of operations in the future.

  • 2/3g+1/2g=14

    6g(2/3g +1/2g)=6g(14)

    4+3 =84g

    g= 7/84

    g=1/12

  • You have to make the 2/3 and 1/2 share a common denominator first, which would be 6. 2/3 is 4/6 and 1/2 is 3/6, so

    4/6g + 3/6g = 14

    You can add the 2 g's together, which is 7/6g = 14

    Then divide both sides by 7/6 to get the variable by itself, which leaves g = 12! If I did it right, g = 12.

  • You must first find a common denominator, which is 6.

    Then multiply the entire equation by 6:

    6(2/3g+1/2g=14)

    4g+3g=84

    7g=84

    g=84/7

  • 2/3g + 1/2g = 14

    4g + 3g = 84

    7g = 84

    g = 12

    Answer: g = 12

    Proof:

    2/3(12) + 1/2(12) = 14

    8 + 6 = 14

  • 2/3 is equal to 4/6 and 1/2 is equal to 3/6

    so 4/6 plus 3/6 = 7/6g = 14. now put 14/(7/6). your calculator knows that dividing fractions is the same as multiplying by their recriprocals.

  • you have to make the 3 and 2 ( the bottem half of the fractions ) equivelant. Once you do that, divide 14 by your NEW numerator.

    g is just a variable. it does not stand for grams.

  • g(2/3 + 1/2) =14

    g(7/6) = 14

    g =12.

    hopefully this help.
