Associate Degree Nursing?

I already have my associates in teacher education. However, I am thinking about changing tracks and going into nursing. Are the core classes the same? I know I'll have to take the required nursing classes but I have already completed all the Lit, Math, etc classes. Is it going to take me the full 2 years to complete another associates degree?

Also, upon receiving an ADN will I be able to be an RN? Or do I have to get my bachelors degree?

  • Some schools will only accept Math and Sciences if you only took them less than 5 years ago. There may be a few classes you are missing, such as Anatomy and Physiology. Check with the local community college.

It will take you the whole 2 years to complete since you will be taking nursing courses and participating in required clinical rotations. Once you receive your ADN, you are eligible to sit for the licensure exam which will license you to practice as a nurse, RN.
