Is it a natural response to panic?
I self-harm.. And I had hit an artery on accident, I know it was an artery because the blood was squirting straight up, and my initial response (After holding a towel to it tightly) was to call my ex boyfriend, because he has a car, and my parents aren't in town. After he didn't answer (Because it's 4 am) I paced for a few minutes debating on calling 911. I got the blood to clot and I'm okay, but I'm still shaking. Is it a natural response to panic in a situation like that, or does it depend on the person?

I'd say that's a pretty natural response to a bad injury like that. Call your doctor tomorrow to make sure your cut isn't infected and also ask him/her for help on how to stop cutting and deal with the negatives in your life differently. Cutting is really awful and you are much too awesome to spend time being in so much pain.
I would definitely be panicking if I had blood spurting from my artery. Moral of the story - don't self-harm! It's risky, painful and will not help you at all.
