I'm looking for a forest that almost no one will go to beacuase of all kinds of paranormal stuff. Ghost, UFOs, beats, you name it. thanks a lot for the help!!!
The Blair Witch hunt, Burkittsville, Maryland, in Frederick County. This forest is really actually haunted by a spirit that protects the indigenous people of that county. It is very unfriendly to outsiders and will starve them out. The forest will cover up civilization so that you can't see the local market that is just across the street. It is known as being taken down because people that escaped claimed that they were actually about five feet below the land level when they could begin seeing the familiar territory.
They say the forest was always that way and no one actually knows what happened on the land to cause it to be so hostile. The legend began when settlers displaced native americans and began a process of genocide. The spirit continued to affect indigenous black slaves. A rumor went around that the forest would feed young women fleeing social persecution and show them the future (as it stands today). The problem and why it was declared a witch and not a saint is because a few women did reappear after entering the forest and were informed that they were killed without even knowing it. The forest would actually kill the women. One woman lost her leg and was brought back by a man traveling that had seen how the forest tried to swallow her. But the man held on and brought her back on the road and resuscitated her. The women began to fight the man wishing she had died because she could no long tolerate her life and had seen this side of life.
Im sure that there are a variety of forests around the world that do possess such mystery and lore which some may include a story or two involving ghosts or something paranormal. It's difficult to say for sure which is the scariest. I would personally be more afraid of the wildlife and being stalked by a Grizzly Bear than I would a ghost or something else paranormal. You may be more likely to live to tell about a paranormal encounter more than a Bear attack. I have though done a little looking into such mysteries throughout the years and one place in particular that does come up every so often is the Pine Barrens just outside of New Jersey. This is said to be where the "Jersey Devil" inhabits and a location that not many do venture out into especially alone. The Jersey Devil is a sinister being that has it's origins as far back as the Native Americans that lived in the area. Though this is most likely a legend or folklore of some type, Im not so sure Id want to go camping there any time soon. Take care.
Well here in Massachusetts there is an area called the Bridge Water Triangle. It is an area that is a swamp, and has many paranormal folklore associated with it.
I personally witnessed a phenomena call 'Old Red', a ghost hitch hiker with red hair.
Before I even knew this area was haunted, traveling throught the area on the highway would make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Highway route 24 runs in the area of the triangle. I also feel lost time phenomina, like traveling over the area is thakin longer that it should, or that time is being distored.
Also this area is accually related to the Salem Witch trials, since land in the area was owned by a judge. I'm not sure of the exact details, but I think there was some type of offer made to those accused of witch craft. If the accused agreed to move from Salem to the Bridge water area they would be spared the death sentence.
There area also claims of sightings of big foot, UFO's, and ghosts.
Bluff Mountain, in the George Washington National Forest, is famous for two things. First, it's an outstanding scenic vista on the Appalachian Trail. Second, it's where the body of Ottie Cline Powell was found.
Ottie was 4 years old when he wandered from a schoolhouse in Amherst County, Virginia, in 1890. Despite extensive searching, his body wasn't found until seven months later, 7 miles away on the top of the mountain. A small monument stands at the site. Hikers and campers have reported seeing an apparition at night, particularly at the nearby hiker's shelter. Is Ottie still trying to find his way home?
Kate's Mountain, West Virginia
In Greenbrier County, West Virginia, legend has it that the headless ghost of a woman roams the grounds of the famed Greenbrier Resort. The woman, named Kate, her husband Nathan, and her baby were all killed and scalped by Indians. Many reports of odd lights and the aforementioned headless ghost come from those who climb to the Kate's Mountain summit.
Robinson Woods, Illinois
You don't always have to go far into the wilderness to find a haunted woods. Robinson Woods, near Chicago, are home to a Native American burial ground that has some strange happenings associated with it.
Buried in the woods is Alexander Robinson, the English name of Chee-Chee-Pin-Quay, chief of the Potawatomi, Chippewa and Ottawa tribes in the early 19th century. In 1955, two teenagers were discovered murdered in the woods. Since then, reports of mysterious lights and sounds have been reported. The woods is a favorite haunt of paranormal investigators.
