  • Neither are great.. they are about the same quality foods. Either one is going to be medium quality food. Both are better than Purina, Science Diet, Iams, etc. But there are better foods out there. Such as Canidae, Innova, Wellness, etc. I would type in your zip codes on these sites and see if you can find a store near you that sells one of these brands. I would imagine they sell it near you.

If you can find one of these foods listed, its going to be leaps and bounds better for your pet. Good Luck!

  • I just asked a similar question, feel free to check it out, I've received some great answers!

I have been feeding my dog Nutro Ultra, but I had heard before that there was better and now with the recall, I am convinced I'm going to switch.

the 7th poster to my question gave me some info about Blue Buffalo. The only thing, so far, that concerns me is that it is ONLY sold at PetSmart... I have not been happy with PetSmart for various reasons. But the food does sound quality.

I think I am leaning toward Innova Evo. From what I've read, it really does sound like the best. I'm also really pleased with Nature's Variety. I may combine them or try them both.

I used to think that Nutro was the end-all/be all, but I'm quickly learning that it's not! There are so many other options out there!

    Good luck!

  • I would have to say Blue Buffalo, because Nutro was on the recall list.

The only downfall of Blue Buffalo, is that they are in the process of removing a potentially fatal ingredent (in just about every store brand dog food) called Menadione - which is a sythetic Vit. K and has a whole list of detrimental side effects.

Last I heard, Blue Buffalo was taking it out of their products, so just double check.

Here are some helpful links on how to find the best dog foods with the least harmful side effects to your pets health.

  • Neither! Nutro is on the recall list. http://www.menufoods.com/recall/product_dog.html

Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. • I fed Nutro Natural Choice to my Weims and they had runny poop. Never tried Blue Buffalo, but I'm betting it's better than Nutro. I currently feed Flint River Ranch and my dogs do best on it.

  • I agree 1000% with B.W. -- the brands that you find at most "chain" retailers like Petsmart contain ingredients that are appalling and the big name brands like Nutro, Iams, and Science Diet all have appeared on the current recall list. I am currently using Innova for my Jack Russell and he is thriving! Check out www.naturapet.com to see the many awesome selections that they offer. Natura brands offer what I would say is the best diet for pets.

  • Blue Buffalo is best of those you mentioned. Canidae,Solid Gold varieties ,Evo and Timberwolf Organic variets are better

  • HI

A little tip read the ingredients and if meat is the first thing listed like chicken, beef, lamb it is better than most I buy the cosco kirkland dog food and my pets love it.
