Projector Aspect Ratio Problem for HDMI PS3?

I have a projector, Mitsubishi HC1600 HD version, and a PS3. When I first got the PS3 I was using composite cables for video and it fit on my wall (the projector is attached to the wall now and moving it is out of the question, and it is zoomed in all the way to make the picture as small as possible). Now that I have HDMI cables, when I set the resolution to 720 or 1080 i or p, the picture becomes too large for my wall, and I can't find any setting on my projector or PS3 to fix it. The aspect button isnt making any noticeable difference. Is there anything I can do?

  • Sorry, but playing with aspect ratio is the wrong approach ... you want to be able to use the aspect ratio of the movie. Since you can't move the projector, you need a bigger screen (My guess is you are losing much of the benefit of a projector by using too small an image anyway).

You also don't want to use composite cables. It limits image quality. Use an HDMI cable.

See the 1st link for a screen distance/size calculator that will show you the "right" size screen for your viewing distance. Then see the 2nd link for a calculator that shows screen size mounting distance. Some combination (if you turn the brightness down) will work for you.

  • You have a compatability issue with your Projector-HDMI- & PS3.

There is no fix, besides switching back to component cables & 1080i.
