how do you write a formal request?

i'm going to traffic court today and want to request the method the officer used to ascertain my speed, a motion for discovery?

    There is no need to write a formal request. You can ask him when you present the evidence at trial. The prosecutor should bring the officer to the stand and you will be allowed to cross examine him. When doing so, you than can ask him what he was using to ascertain your speed.
